What is the WCAG contrast ratio requirement?
WCAG 2.1 requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (18px+ or 14px+ bold) to meet AA compliance. For AAA compliance, normal text needs 7:1 and large text needs 4.5:1. Our tool checks all four thresholds simultaneously as you pick colors.
What's the difference between WCAG AA and AAA?
WCAG AA is the minimum compliance level required by most accessibility laws (including ADA and EAA). WCAG AAA is a stricter, aspirational standard. AA requires 4.5:1 for normal text; AAA requires 7:1. Most organizations target AA for all content and AAA where feasible.
